Update January - Wallace telephoned to say that they had sold the chest over the holiday for $50 less than we paid for it, and offered to refund all but the $50. Basically, we paid Wallace $50 to cause damage to a chest (by improperly securing it) that we had to drive 90 miles to return. So after 180 miles round trip + $50, we are out roughly $130 total, and have nothing to show for it. Not a very generous offer, but we were ready for it to be over. It took Wallace nearly 1 1/2 months to respond after hanging up on us in November, and I hardly call this a satisfactory resolution. We would prefer not to pay $130 in the future to haul something from Kannapolis to Winston Salem to find that it was damaged in transit, and not even have had the chance to bring the furniture in the house. They did request that we pull this complaint off the internet, but to be fair, we left it for everyone to judge for themselves and posted the "resolution" that Wallace seems to find acceptable. After two 180 mile round trips from WS to Kannapolis AND being hung up on, we gave them $50 and took nothing. Perhaps we are in the wrong business!

November 28 - We purchased a blanket chest on 11/13/2008, Rick, the salesman and another employee loaded the chest in the car. They placed padding in the car, however the padding did not protect the chest from the seatbelt. When we returned home and unloaded chest from the car, we noticed the chips on the top of the chest, and did not take the chest into the house, we left it in the garage.

The salesman (Rick) said it was a solid wood top, but the top was clearly veneer. The fact that there were chips on the edge of the chest that lay against the seatbelts showed that it was not due to placing or removing the chest from the car, otherwise there would be scratches instead of chips off the veneer top. The chips were obviously made by the seatbelt, due to the improper padding placement under the chest.

The chest has been taken back to the store, where the salesman offered to take $50 off. We are not satisfied with the fact that the top was veneer, the attempted "repair" was unacceptable, nor with the fact that the salesperson offered $50.00 off the chest. We do not want the repaired chest, the store has physical possession of the chest, and we want to dispute the charge. My son then called (704-932-8151 and 704-932-8141) to discuss this again with the salesman, we asked for a manager, but Rick came back on and said "I can help you".

We offered him the chance to come to a mutually acceptable agreement. We told him that $50 off was not an acceptable agreement, but he had nothing else to offer. We tried to call back one last time before contacting the credit card company, but the phone range, and was not answered - we suspect they ignored the caller ID because they knew who was calling, as it was 11:15 am, and they had answered on the 3rd ring an hour before. At this point, we have contacted the credit card company to dispute the charge. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU LOAD AND UNLOAD PURCHASED FURNITURE YOURSELF!

We wonder what the response would have been if we had paid for delivery and they had chipped the chest during delivery - would they have refused a refund then, as well? The charge has been disputed with our credit card company. If you buy from Wallace Furniture Company in Kannapolis, MAKE SURE YOU USE A CREDIT CARD! Wallace lists 704-932-8151 and 704-932-8141 as contact phone numbers.

When we were chatting, Rick had mentioned that people asked him in the past about an internet presence, and Wallace did not have one. Lucky for them (and you!), they now have an internet presence that they did not have to pay for - at least, not out of pocket.
